AWS European Sovereign Cloud investigated for SLM Rijk

GreenbergTraurig investigated AWS European Sovereign Cloud (IaaS) on behalf of SLM Microsoft, Google Cloud, and AWS (SLM). An explanation (Dutch) of the investigation and its results has been made public.
The investigation was legal in nature and focused specifically on data sovereignty and system availability. No investigation was conducted into the technical or organizational measures at AWS.
The main conclusion of the investigation is that “the likelihood of the US gaining access to customer data or services being suspended due to US sanctions when using the AWS Sovereign Cloud is unlikely, but not inconceivable. Access would only be to metadata, not to substantive customer data (Customer Data).”
