Dutch organization saves data that is at risk of disappearing under Trump
Members in het News: Surf, Magchiel Bijsterbosch - NU.NL 'From greenhouse gas measurements to HIV data: important American research data has disappeared or is at risk of disappearing. The Trump administration's policies have negative consequences for Dutch scientists. While institutions wait, a small IT organization is helping researchers secure valuable data'.

The open gates of the gray tower at the Amsterdam Science Park do not reveal that inside, supercomputers are running 24 hours a day to process important data. But after extensive identity checks, many secured doors, and missing water connections, it becomes clearer.
A journey through many corridors ends in a noticeably warm room. There is no supercomputer here. You enter a fluorescent-lit space that resembles a meter-long filing cabinet. A robot moves back and forth inside: its mechanical arm rummages through blue, green, and yellow cassettes.
"All the data is safely stored here," says innovation manager Magchiel Bijsterbosch of SURF. He doesn't disclose exactly what kind of data it is. "We don't want to give Trump any ideas'.
