Rapid changes are also a challenge for IT
Members in the News: Dutch IT Leaders, Mario Suykerbuyk, CIO Tennet. TenneT is growing enormously. About six years ago, the grid operator had nearly 5,000 employees. Now, there are 'just under 10,000', including the German branch. And with good reason: in the coming years, a doubling to quintupling of the demand for electricity is expected

This means at least a doubling of the grid capacity and in most places a tripling: electricity stations, overhead and underground cables. And this, in turn, has a significant impact on the IT foundation, said Mario Suykerbuyk, CIO of TenneT, in a recent interview with Dutch IT Leaders. 'It is indeed quite a challenge to change so quickly at times.'
A lot is changing in the field of energy supply in the Netherlands, and it is happening at a relatively fast pace. From supply (tens of thousands of solar panels and wind turbines instead of a few large power plants) to the sharply increasing demand - from consumers to data centers. And all of this must be facilitated with a network that must at least double in size in the coming years.
